Schumi no longer talking about title

26 July 2005

At the end of the day his fans made up somewhat for the disappointment of the race. Michael was naturally disappointed to have had to go into battle with a blunt weapon, however, the cheers, flags and shouts of encouragement from the fans after the Hockenheim race meant that he could put up with the result. "It was incredible to see how the fans supported us during the weekend", declared the current world champion the day after the German Grand Prix.

"The atmosphere was unique, like a Serie A soccer crowd. I took it to be a public demonstration of gratitude. In exchange, we had to try to give something back to our fans. To be honest, I would have liked to have given them even more. There was simply nothing else to be done. Now we have to get back to the top".

Michael preferred not to discuss the world title: "At the moment it is not the most important thing for us and I don't think we should take it into consideration". He focused instead on how to improve the performance of his car. The chances of doing this, at least until after this weekend's Hungarian GP, are limited. Little can be done in such a short time. "We cannot hope to improve everything at once. Above all, we have to try to do the best with what we have, as we did on Sunday. We have to go on working as we have been as losing our composure is pointless. We can still improve and win races this year".

Michael will fly to Budapest on Wednesday and that same evening, at 20.00, he will play in a charity football match. The Puskas Ferenc Nationalstadion will host a game between the drivers versus an All-Star team. The match will be shown live on Hungarian television and Placido Domingo should get proceedings underway. A game of football is always a good way for Michael to begin a race weekend.
