'I'm not quitting' - Stoddart
12 August 2005Minardi principal and owner Paul Stoddart says quitting formula one is not on his radar. But the Australian, seemingly always on the brink of survival in the sport's paddock, admitted that he was talking to a potential team buyer.
"It's the same speculation that comes round every year," he said on a business visit to Melbourne for his new airline OzJet. "Quite often it's the prospective purchasers who leak the stories."
Perhaps for the first time since buying the little Faenza based squad in 2001, though, Minardi is doing alright. Stoddart confirmed that, unlike in the past, the back of the grid team - financially - is able to race on. He would, however, sell to a manufacturer, but only for the sake of his staff. "One day it might happen," 'Stoddy' admitted, "but not yet."
