De la Rosa quickest in Turkish F1 debut
19 August 2005 / Results / PhotosMcLaren's test driver Pedro de la Rosa set the fastest time in this morning's official Formula One debut in Turkey. In first practice the Spaniard was faster than his team mate Kimi Räikkönen. De la Rosa didn't have a perfect session though. Towards the end of the session he had to stop his car with what looked like a gearbox problem.
A new track guarantees a lot of action usually. The Turkish track wasn't much different as many drivers this morning were looking for the limits out on track. Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher both spun into the gravel once, but managed to get out.
Minardi driver Robert Doornbos was less fortunate. His Minardi suffered from gearbox problems as the Dutchman was ordered by the team to slowly drive back to the pitbox. Pedro de la Rosa had to stop out on track. A crane had to pick up his McLaren as the car got stuck in a gear making it impossible for marshals to push the car away.
