Panis not a big V8 fan

26 August 2005

Toyota continued the V8 program in Monza this week. Next year all teams will be using a V8 or a limited V10 engine. For Toyota it was the second test with the V8. Olivier Panis was driving the car and is positive about the program, but not on the rule change.

"It's going well," he told F1Racing.net. "Monza is a difficult track for an engine as it is about 70% full throttle. Driving this car is different to what we are used to. It still feels as an F1 car, but of course it is much slower. I am not keen on the rule change, but this is the way it is. We better make the best of it and that is what we do."

Most of the teams have not started testing the V8, but Toyota is working on it for a while. "That is an advantage. Now we have had a positive test in Monza as well. I had a problem on the first day, but that was after 80 laps."

Panis also said he is happy with his role as test driver for Toyota.
