2005 focus could cost Renault
03 September 2005Renault's Pat Symonds has denied that focusing on winning the 2005 world championship will compromise the team's first V8 campaign next year. The engineering chief told Speed TV that the last aerodynamic pieces will be fitted to the R25 car for the season ending Chinese grand prix.
But he insisted: ''I think ourselves, McLaren, Ferrari - people like that - are big enough to do it. I won't say that it has no effect, but it is pretty minor.''
Last year, Renault called off development of their 2004 racer - despite the battle for second with BAR - in order to focus on the current R25. This time, the stakes are higher -- and the rival, McLaren, quicker. ''We are working bloody hard to get up with them,'' Symonds admitted.
