Zonta fastest in second practice

In Friday's second practice session Ricardo Zonta set the fastest time. The Brazilian was well ahead of the others. Over a second behind Zonta was Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher and McLaren's test driver Pedro de la Rosa. Sato ended 13th and Yamamoto 17th in their home Grand Prix.

The clouded day at Suzuka turned into a wet day in the end. Half-way into the second practice session rain started to come down. A few teams remained on dry tyres but some (BAR, Williams and Sauber) tried their wet tyres.

The only driver suffering from a failure in the second practice session was Liuzzi. In the final chicane his car stopped with a mechanical problem.

Sakon Yamamoto's F1 Grand Prix debut is over. Yamamoto did very well here at Suzuka. He ended seventeenth in today's second practice.
