Bahrain denies Dubai threat
17 October 2005Bahrain has brushed aside speculation that Dubai's newly announced F1 theme park could spell trouble for its own grand prix. With suggestions that F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone only has room for a single Middle Eastern venue, the two-year-old Bahrain circuit issued a statement on Sunday heralding the Dubai development as 'undoubtedly good news'.
''It will generate greater awareness for the sport in the region,'' the statement went on. The inaugural Bahrain grand prix was held in March last year.
Track 'general manager' Martin Whitaker referred to 'the security of a long term contract' with Ecclestone. Bahrain is likely to open the 2006 calendar in March next year.
