Briatore would have quit
17 October 2005Flavio Briatore says he would have quit Renault if the team had not won the 2005 world championship. The flamboyant team principal, whose current contract with the French carmaker runs out this year, extended the deal for at least one more season in April.
But he told the Italian 'La Reppublica newspaper: ''In 2001 I arrived at Renault and said, 'we'll become champions in 2005'. We did it, otherwise in December I would have resigned.''
Briatore added yet another trophy to the cabinet with Fernando Alonso's Shanghai success - the constructors' double. But the Renault boss, renowned in the society pages for courting beautiful models, was showing something else off in China -- Australian model Rachel Swaney.
The pair met while Swaney was the 'Face of Foster's' in Melbourne earlier this year, and are believed to have wined and dined in Shanghai, according to Italian press sources.
