Raikkonen and Alonso earn F1 holiday

17 October 2005

Kimi Raikkonen will enjoy a well earned twenty sixth birthday present on Monday -- a two and a half month break from F1. McLaren's Finn, runner up to Fernando Alonso in the 2005 championship, has been told he can rest and relax until his next test, in early January.

''It's always nice to have a holiday, have some fun,'' he said in Shanghai, ''just doing something other than driving.''

World champion Alonso, meanwhile, will similarly look forward to a long break from the cockpit, starting with his Sunday evening flight from China back to London. ''With these very long seasons,'' the Spaniard said, ''you need a break beforehand so I think my first test will be in the middle or late January. Until then I hope to relax and enjoy my family.''
