BAR boss wants greener F1

22 November 2005

BAR boss Nick Fry says F1 should be prepared to switch to more efficient and environmentally friendly cars in the near future. He also said the investment F1 teams are making in research will have a good impact on the car industry as a whole.

"It's almost ironic the specific area where F1 development will influence road cars s in efficiency and environmental issues," Fry said. "F1 is all about efficiency and getting the most from what you can within the rules."

"Fuel consumption is very important - if you can go that one extra lap, if you can use less fuel so you have a lighter car, then you will have a significant advantage," Fry added. "By the end of alst season the difference between the top teams was 20 horse power out of more than 900 - if you could by contrast go that one extra lap on the equivalent fuel load or start the car five or ten kilos lighter than it's a bigger advantage."

Fry suggested that F1 might develop into a hybrid series with greener F1 cars racing.
