Spa must hold GP - Ecclestone
29 November 2005Bernie Ecclestone says he will enforce Belgium's contractual obligation to host a grand prix next year. Although Spa-Francorchamps' race promoter has gone bankrupt, the local Wallonian government - whether it realised it or not - apparently guaranteed that a grand prix be staged at the popular venue until 2010.
"There is a contract between us," the 75-year-old formula one supremo told the daily 'Le Soir' newspaper. "I can't see why there should be a debate. When a contract is signed, it must be respected, period."
Other media sources, however, have suggested that the matter might end up in court, even if it seems that the Belgian government's legal advice is that any action would fail.
