Wurz remains hopeful of race seat

29 November 2005

With just a few seats left in Formula 1, the coming weeks will be vital for aspiring race drivers. McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz is hoping to be on the grid next year, but it won't be easy. At the moment all he can do is wait and see if he can be signed as a racing driver and in the meantime continue his work at McLaren, testing the V8 engine.

"It is not a great time on the market at the moment for us drivers," he told F1Racing.net. "But that is how it is, you just have to work harder. I heard about the BMW rumours too, but I can't comment on that. I know what I'll be doing tomorrow, but that's about it."

During the first day of testing in Barcelona, Wurz was driving with Gary Paffet testing the new Mercedes V8 engine. For Wurz the loss of power is not a positive change. "It's a big difference. But what can you do… I had a lot of problems, but not with the engine. So that was good," he concluded.
