Barcelona Day 3: Button sets pace

30 November 2005 / Results / Photos

Jenson Button got Honda's winter testing off to a strong start by setting the fastest lap during the third day of testing this week at Barcelona. The British driver was using a V10 engine though as he worked on developing the team's aerodynamics. Renault tester Franck Montagny was second fastest ahead of Jarno Trulli in the 2006 Toyota.

Toyota was the fastest team of those running V8 engines - Trulli third and Zonta fourth although the Brazilian's day was limited at 20 laps of running due to a problem with the car. Trulli managed 65 laps. Nick Heidfeld finished fifth, 0.5s off Trulli's pace as the German drove this year's Sauber fitted with a BMW V8 engine. Meanwhile Honda ran Anthony Davidson with its V8 engine - he finished tenth.

David Coulthard was sixth fastest in the Red Bull as the team continued testing with a limited V10 Cosworth engine. Yesterday's pace setter Christian Klien was eighth ahead of Vitantonio Liuzzi in the Toro Rosso car - this year's Red Bull car with a limited Cosworth V10 engine.

Williams was again in action with Mark Webber completing 70 laps as he joined winter testing. Nico Rosberg suffered a spin in the morning and completed just 18 laps because of mechanical problems. The team was testing with Cosworth V8 engines.
