Newey held Honda talks

He wound up at Red Bull, but McLaren renegade Adrian Newey was also courted by Honda. That is the revelation of the Brackley based team's Nick Fry, who said Newey - McLaren's long time and highly rated technical director - had talks with his Honda counterpart Geoff Willis.

The January edition of 'F1 Racing' magazine purports that Honda's approaches to Newey had the backing of Honda Japan. "Geoff did have a few discussions with Adrian," team principal Fry said, "but we concluded that there was no role for an individual like Adrian at Honda. Everyone at Honda understood that."
