Ferrari chief gives new rules boost

30 December 2005

As F1 has taken a winter break from on track testing, much attention has turned to the new rules for 2006 and the FIA's proposals for rules beyond 2008 which are designed to avoid expensive technology.

"Qualifying will be interesting this year as the driver and car will count for more," Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo was quoted as saying by Autosport. "With the engines it was a technological challenge and therefore useful, but from 2008 we change again, to reduce costs and improve overtaking."

"That's fair, but research is vital," he added. "It's important to ban exotic materials which cost a massive amount and you can't take to production road cars."
