Renault sees challenge from Honda and McLaren

21 February 2006

Renault sees its main threat in the championship coming from Honda and now McLaren after Kimi Raikkonen put in a blistering lap at Valencia last week. Ferrari, though reasonably fast are struggling for reliability.

"So far this winter, I think it appears ourselves and Honda may have slightly the upper hand, but McLaren are certainly getting there too," said Renault engineering director Pat Symonds. "Last week in Valencia, they produced some very good long run times and started looking competitive. And Ferrari are not far behind."

"Everybody will have new packages at the first race - ourselves included - and that may slightly alter the balance," he added. "So we cannot be sure of the final standings, but we know we are somewhere near the front."
