FIA inspect Malaysian F1 track
03 March 2006In Sepang the Grand Prix track was checked on Thursday by FIA's Safety Delegate and race directory Charlie Whiting. According to Whiting a few areas needed to be improved before the Malaysian Grand Prix can be held on the 19th of March.
Whiting told the track that a few areas need to have the new interlocking bricks are at Turns 2 (photo above), 7, 8, 9,12 and 14.
"Except for some areas where we need to put interlocking bricks in place of the grass, Charlie said there were no problems with the track. The track is ready for the race," said the Sepang track General Manager Datuk Ahmad Mustafa.
"The grass has taken root and caused bulges at the edge of the track at these areas. This could pose danger to the drivers," said Ahmad.
The work will begin immediately in Sepang so the circuit will be ready before the Malaysian Grand Prix.
