Numerous reports doing the rounds about Kimi Räikkönen and his future at McLaren or Ferrari. They suggest that Raikkonen could take Michael Schumacher's place when the German retires, but others suggest it is increasingly likely the two will be team mates. Räikkönen's strongest indication that he could move came as he said Michael Schumacher will not influence his decision.
Räikkönen is refusing to confirm anything concerning his possible team switch. "I am not a Ferrari driver - not yet," Räikkönen told Ilta-Sanomat. It had been thought that Raikkonen would take Schumacher's place after the German's retirement but Kimi said, "Whatever Schumacher does, it will not influence my future in F1."
Fernando Alonso will join McLaren in 2007. According to his former manager the Spaniard won't see Räikkönen as his teammate at the British team. "Kimi Räikkönen will definitely not be Alonso's team mate next year. I'm 100% sure of this," his former manager Campos said.
Finnish newspapers quote a Ferrari engineer saying: "The team (Ferrari) doesn't want to make an early announcement and make the same mistake Ron Dennis made by announcing Alonso as their race driver for 2007."
