Liuzzi: V10 is competitive but not faster than V8
12 April 2006Vitantonio Liuzzi is enjoying a reasonable start to the season. With the Scuderia Toro Rosso team, he is able to fight for points. A lot has been said about the restricted Cosworth V10 Toro Rosso is using, but Liuzzi is not worried about the competition's opinions.
"Its going well," Liuzzi told F1Racing.net in Barcelona. "We have made a step forward. This is a learning year and we are growing day by day. I'm happy with the way the team is working. I'm pretty happy with the first three races. In Melbourne I could have scored points."
After the Australian Grand Prix, Liuzzi tested the car of their big brother team, Red Bull. "It was a nice experience. The RB2 is a completely different car, a nice one. The engine is very fast. Everybody said that we would be very fast with the V10, but the V8 is faster for sure. It is a bit hard to compare the cars, because I didn't test both cars in the same conditions."

Many people fear the restricted V10 engine on high-downforce tracks, like Monaco an Hungary. Liuzzi is hoping that Torro Rosso will be fast, but he does not expect any miracles at those kind of tracks. "I hope we can do well on the slow tracks. I don't understand why all the people are complaining about us being fast in slow corners, as 80% of the races is on tracks with high speed corners. On top of that, in the slow corners the V10 is competitive, but not faster than the V8."
"I am happy that I don't have to be afraid to lose my seat every race," he continued. "You are more focused on your job. You have your group of people working for you. I am more relaxed now, because I can concentrate on my job now, instead of just working on trying to stay in the car."
