
Fernando Alonso fought back against Michael Schumacher's determination to win this weekend and finished Friday's second practice session 0.3s ahead of the German as the current and former champions led the field.
Alonso's time of 1m25.043s came from 15 laps while Schumacher put in 13. Third fastest was BMW third driver Robert Kubica ahead of Honda's Anthony Davidson. Both third drivers compelted 31 laps. Felipe Massa was fifth confirming Ferrari's pace this weekend.
Fisichella was sixth in the second Renault ahead of an improved Jarno Trulli and Williams tester Alex Wurz. McLaren set curious times over a second off the pace with Montoya ninth and Raikkonen twelfth - between them the BMW of Heidfeld and the Honda of Button.
