Delighted Schumacher making up for mistakes
22 April 2006 / Results / PhotosDelighted with his dominant pole position in qualifying for the San Marino Grand Prix Michael Schumacher said Ferrari was making up for its misfortune and mistakes in the past few weeks to give its home fans - the Tifosi - something to cheer about.
"With the car we had when we got pole in Bahrain it was obvious we should be able to do it here," Schumacher said. "We worked very hard because of our misfortune and mistakes in the last few weeks to make up ground and here we are we've made up significantly. Obviously the race is another thing and this is the first step to it but seeing where Fernando is it's a great position for us going into the race."
Schumacher's 66th pole takes him past Ayrton Senna's record of 65 before the Brazilian was killed in an accident at this circuit in 1994.
"The record is less important," Schumacher added. "You look at it when you finish your racing and may think about it but not now. It's a bit of a mixed feeling because I came in and there was still a Renault on track and I didn't know if we'd done it. But getting a pole here for our Tifosi after all the pain they've gone through in recent weeks I am very excited."
