Michael Schumacher fought back and was well and truly in the zone in final practice on this morning as he finished almost 0.3s ahead of Fernando Alonso and over half a second up on Fisichella. Ferrari's pace was confirmed by Felipe Massa who finished just 0.006s behind the second Renault.
Kimi Raikkonen got McLaren mixing closer at the front this morning setting the fifth fastest time - but 0.8s behind Michael Schumacher's pace. Ralf Schumacher was sixth ahead of Button and Villeneuve going well in eighth on a track he has traditionally been strong at.
Christian Klien and Liuzzi rounded off the top ten. Both Williams cars looked to struggle with Webber twelfth and Rosberg nineteenth, but the worst session award went to Montoya who managed just one lap and spent the rest of the session in the pits as mechanics worked furiously to repair a glitch on his car.
It was a warm morning at Imola - air temerparture 26 degrees and track temperature 33 degrees Centigrade - warmer than most expected before F1 travelled to this event.
