Mixed feelings...

Column: Mixed feelings...

10 May 2006

To be honest I don't really want to look back at last weekend. At the Nürburgring I had a lot of bad luck and wasn't happy with my result. To start with the big mess during qualifying, no one really knew what was going on and in the end I was knocked out in the first round unfortunately. During the race I was held up by Sato for a long time and lost a lot of time. I was able to close the gap with Monteiro but I was unable to overtake him.

I had a nice fight with Monteiro. Although he is my team mate I won't be easy on him. I might take a bit of less risk during overtaking since it wouldn't be good to crash with my team mate, but in the end it's racing what its all about on Sunday.

On a positive note, I want to thank the many many fans at the Nurburgring. I saw many orange caps and received a lot of support during the entire weekend. During the weekend I was eating at a restaurant where a lot of fans were too and that was actually a lot of fun. After the race on Sunday a lot of fans were standing in front of the pitbox and I talked to a lot of them. Those kinds of things keeps you going!

Since the race at the Nurburgring it was pretty calm. I had an opening of a Bilderberg hotel. It was really nice to have been there. A lot of people came to enjoy the opening of their new hotel.

The next race is at Circuit de Catalunya. I will fly to Barcelona on Wednesday evening and on Thursday it will be a regular day again. We will be going through all the data with the engineers and I will walk around the track once or twice.

The last test we did at Barcelona went pretty well. Hopefully we can find the same pace during qualifying this Saturday.

I heard that many of our sponsors will visit the Spanish Grand Prix so hopefully I can show them a good performance. Let's hope it won't be like last year when I couldn't get away from my grid position!
