Wurz sets early Silverstone pace

09 June 2006 / Photos

Alexander Wurz set the early pace the first practice session of the weekend at Silverstone. The WilliamsF1 test driver turned in a best lap of 1m21.946s to finish 0.057s ahead of Honda test driver Anthony Davidson.

It was a hot and sunny morning at Silverstone with air temperature climbing to 27 degrees Centigrade and the track reaching 43 degrees. As usual the first practice session on Friday was dominated by third drivers - BMW's Robert Kubica finished third.

Jarno Trulli was the fastest of the very few race drivers who took to the track with a lap of 1m22.877s ahead of Michael Schumacher. Neither of the McLarens or Renaults bothered to set any timed laps - each choosing instead to complete one installation lap.

The session was delayed for five minutes after Franck Montagny stopped on track at the first corner just 13 minutes into the session. His car was promptly retrieved to the pit lane.
