Alonso says no chances for Silverstone defeat
11 June 2006 / Results / PhotosFernando Alonso savoured an easy victory at the British Grand Prix, his fifth win of the season and the first time he has won at Silverstone. Alonso led from start to finish and saw off some early pressure from Kimi Raikkonen to take another ten points. The Spaniard went on to say there was no opportunity for his rivals to beat him today.
"Victory today was quite good for us," Alonso said. "Starting from pole made it a bit easier and today we saw that we had some more fuel than the others which meant we were better on strategy."
"The tyres were perfect during the race and there weren't any chances for our opponents to beat us today," he added. "It's good news for the rest of the season and we have a good car with no problems. The first two laps after the safety car Kimi was quick, we had some understeer having prepared the car to be better towards the end of the stints. I build a gap and then controlled it for the rest of the race."
