Schumacher settles for second
11 June 2006 / Results / PhotosMichael Schumacher looked rather unhappy after the British Grand Prix where he was forced to settle for second place. Schumacher spent the first two thirds of the afternoon battling with Kimi Raikkonen before passing the Finn in an impressive out lap following his second pit stop.
In the early stages Schumacher and Raikkonen were side-by-side fighting on the run down to Abbey chicane, almost having contact.
"We almost touched sidepods, he moved over and I was already at the limit - he didn't want to give me the inside so I had to try the out side, anyway it was fine," Schumacher said. "We got stuck behind McLaren in the early stages, but you have to say we weren't quick enough this weekend but we'll work on that."
On how he managed to get past Raikkonen in the second pit stops Schumacher explained, "We knew we had a set of new tyres left and we knew they had used theirs at the start already so that was the only strategy we could use to get ahead and I had a lap free of traffic and could pull out enough to get second."
