BMW will keep Villeneuve waiting

24 June 2006

BMW team boss Mario Theissen gave Jacques Villeneuve an unexpectedly public vote of confidence ahead of the Canadian's home Grand Prix this weekend but said a decision on the team's drivers for next year would not be taken any time soon.

Villeneuve's deal expires at the end of this season while team mate Heidfeld is in the first year of a long-term deal. Villeneuve has gone very well this season, scoring in four of the eight races.

"He should continue as he does," Theissen told reporters in Montreal. "He's doing very well and we're happy with his performance - he too is happy. Let's see how the rest of the season goes."

"We took a decision on drivers for this season very late last year and it proved to be the right decision, so we're not in a hurry for next year," he added.
