Ferrari dominates final practice at Indy
01 July 2006 / Results / PhotosFerrari drivers Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa dominated the final free practice session. The Ferrari pair was over a second faster than Giancarlo Fisichella, who ended practice in third.
Saturday's free practice got underway slowly. In the first fifteen minutes there were very few drivers out on track. During the first half of the session Renault driver Giancarlo Fisichella missed the first corner and had to go through the grass as he was being chased by Jacques Villeneuve.
Juan Pablo Montoya and Mark Webber also had their moments as both drivers spun. Neither of them suffered from any damage though. Ferrari drivers Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa were the quickest for most of the session. BMW-Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld settled himself in between the Ferraris in the second half of the session.
Fans at the Brickyard also saw seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher spin his car 180 degrees, though he recovered without any damage.
In the dying minutes of the session Michael Schumacher improved Felipe Massa's (at the time fastest driver) time and made a gap of over one second to Fisichella.
