McLaren plays down Hamilton testing drive
01 July 2006McLaren has played down reports circulating the Indianapolis paddock on Saturday that Lewis Hamilton will test their car next week in Jerez. Reports have claimed that this will be the first of Hamilton's evaluation runs before the team decides on whether he can make the jump to F1 for 2007, but the team has played it down.
A team spokeswoman told F1Racing.net that Hamilton will be behind the wheel of a McLaren car next week, but only to fulfill a television filming commitment the team has to its sponsors. It will not be an evaluation run for the British GP2 star.
McLaren, like most other teams, will be testing at Jerez next week with its usual drive line-up. Hamilton is on a long-term McLaren contract.
