Ralf: F1 doesn't belong in Indianapolis
10 July 2006Ralf Schumacher would like to see the American Grand Prix hosted somewhere else. The Toyota driver hopes Formula 1 won't come back in Indianapolis next year. He believes F1 doesn't belong there. "Formula 1 is a number one event and shouldn't be part of something," he said.

"I hope we won't come back there," he told F1Racing.net. "I don't think Formula 1 belongs in Indianapolis. Formula 1 is a number one event and shouldn't be part of something. It might be a little harsh to say that to the fans, but on the other hand, it's America. People are flying there all the time, so they also would take a flight to Las Vegas or New York. I'm quite sure Americans like Formula 1 enough. They want a show. And we can give them a show if we want to. I've been in New York quite some times and I think it's more European style there than anything. So I guess a Grand Prix over there would stand a better chance."
Ralf Schumacher never had many great successes in Indianapolis. More then once he crashed out in the oval corner. Going back there was not a great problem. "But you keep thinking about that corner," Ralf admitted. "In the end it's very simple: you have to go flat out, otherwise you don't stand a chance. I think both the tyre manufactures where on the safe side this weekend, after what happened last year. It was a decent weekend, but unfortunately I didn't score any points."

Toyota had a slow start this season. The cars where not quick enough, but the team improved every week. "It was not difficult to improve," Ralf admits. "We had an unexpected poor start of the season. The potential was visible for us in the winter testing. We couldn't show that potential in the beginning, but we changed many things. But we are still having too many failures. That will be getting better. That's where size matters. Human recourses, other recourses… And that is what we have. We just need some more time."
