De la Rosa not worried about Paffett

26 July 2006

Following Juan Pablo Montoya's decision to join NASCAR next season Pedro de la Rosa replaced the Colombian at the French Grand Prix. McLaren's test driver finished in a respectable seventh position, scoring two championship points. Speculations suggest that McLaren might want Paffett in the car instead of the Spaniard but De la Rosa isn't worried.

De la Rosa is confident he will be racing for McLaren and not McLaren youngsters Gary Paffett. "The English try to sell their product. It's normal that they try it but I've always been faster than Paffett under all circumstances so I wouldn't see why he would replace me," De la Rosa told Spanish newspaper Marca.

De la Rosa blames the English press for trying to push a British driver forward. "They have Button in a crisis and are now looking out for a new hero. But I am calm because the biggest threat is not Gary but Hamilton."
