Jones advises Webber to stick with Williams

31 July 2006

Ex-Formula 1 World Champion Alan Jones believes Mark Webber should stick with Williams, even though the team is underperforming and has yet to score a podium this season.

Webber has finished only four out of twelve races this season. Alan Jones believes Webber should stick with Williams until the team works its way through the current difficult period. "He's just got to tough it out," Jones told AAP. "At then end of the day, it's probably one of the hardest games in the business and you've got to have enough faith in your ability to know that you're good enough and if you're given the right equipment that you'll do the job - and not to panic."

"He's not running out of time, the people in the know know that he's got the speed when it's required, and they know it's the mechanical aspect that's letting him down, and that's the main thing."

"I think as long as Mark realises that there's people out there who see that he's a good qualifier and that he runs pretty well when things are going well, that's important," added Jones. "People will see that and when the situation arises Williams will either pull their finger out and give him a better car or he'll go to a better team."
