Ex-F1 pilot Nicolas Kiesa to make DTM-debut

18 August 2006

Former Formula 1 driver Nicolas Kiesa will make his DTM debut at the Nurburgring this weekend. He will team up with Vanina Ickx at the Audi team of Futurecom TME. Kiesa will join other ex-F1 drivers such as Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi and Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the German touring car series.

After racing in Formula Ford, Formula 3 and Formula 3000 - where he managed to win the race in Monaco - Nicolas Kiesa stepped into Formula 1 in 2003. At European Minardi Kiesa drove the final five races that season and finished them all.

In 2004 Kiesa busied himself with Minardi's two-seater program while in 2005 he was Jordan's third driver. At the German Grand Prix he helped the team as their third driver in the free practice sessions on Friday.

Kiesa will replace Jeroen Bleekemolen at the Nurburgring due to problems with Bleekemolens main sponsor. "Our partnership with Jeroen was outstanding and helped us a lot," said team boss Dr. Colin Kolles. "We therefore really regret it that he won't be able to race for us. At the same time though we are pleased to be able to give Nicolas Kiesa, who we know from our F1 team, a chance in the DTM series."
