Pollock hints at no return for Villeneuve

24 August 2006

According to Jacques Villeneuve's manager Craig Pollock we have seen the last of the Canadian former world champion. Pollock doesn't expect to see his driver return to Formula 1.

BMW wanted to test their test driver Robert Kubica in Hungary, which was unacceptable for Villeneuve. The Canadian and BMW split right after the Hungarian Grand Prix. The German Grand Prix is most likely the last race for Villeneuve. Pollock told Autosport: "I don't think he is unduly disappointed, I think he was just ready. The way F1 is going in 2006 is towards the young rookie drivers - the relatively unknown, low-cost solution."

BMW send out a press release prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix stating Villeneuve was unable to take part in the Hungarian Grand Prix after his crash at Hockenheim. But Pollock reveals Villeneuve was perfectly fine to race. "In the end it was Jacques's decision not to finish the season," said Pollock. "The way it was all happening, it was just ridiculous. He did have a headache on Monday, but he was absolutely race fit. It was a big accident, but he has had bigger. He never said he was not available."
