Despite a first corner collision at the Turkish Grand Prix that ruined Nick Heidfeld's race, the German is happy about the advancements the BMW-Sauber outfit has made recently.
Giancarlo Fisichella, commended by Renault's Pat Symonds for deliberately avoiding a collision with teammate Fernando Alonso, was forced to spin into the innocent Heidfeld, who managed to get amongst the frontrunners after a good start.
However, Heidfeld remains upbeat and thinks the team has made good progress.
"Looking at our performance during the last race in Budapest and the qualification results here, I believe we are definitely showing an upwards tendency," said the 29-year-old.
"Obviously, the race result here was disappointing but things like this happen. Just as we didn't expect to achieve a podium position in the last race, I didn't expect to leave this race empty-handed either. But that is simply the way Formula One racing is."
