Fernando Alonso is ready to take the battle to Ferrari and beat the Italian squad on its home turf. The 2005 World Champion believes it will be a fight to the end of the season but now he is just focused on increasing his points' advantage at the Monza Grand Prix this weekend.
This will prove more than challenging with Ferrari looking very strong at testing at Monza last week but the Spaniard is determined to prove that he can continually deliver on the big occasion.
"This year I have won in Silverstone, in Monaco, in Spain - and for sure, I want to win Monza too," he said. "It is one of the legendary circuits, so it would be special to win there, and even more so to beat Ferrari at their home race. We know how important the championship is, but this is a big race as well."
The Renault driver was full of praise for his team saying that they are all working especially hard to beat their Championship rivals.
"I think the team did a fantastic job in Turkey. We have had a strange summer, with the mass damper decision and some poor results, so it was good to prove to everybody that the car is competitive regardless," explained Alonso.
"We really fought hard in that race, and it shows we are ready to fight with Ferrari all the way to the end of the championship."
Alonso was also keen to reiterate the team's unity and determination in accomplishing its common goal.
"There is only one target for the Renault team at the moment: to finish in front of Ferrari," he added.
"They have been quite dominant in the last races, so beating them means winning races. That is our focus."
