Super Aguri ready for Monza challenge

04 September 2006

Super Aguri's Japanese duo Takuma Sato and Sakon Yamamoto are confident ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix at Monza after a positive test last week at the Italian track.

The more experienced Sato is looking forward to returning to the legendary Monza, where he scored his second best finish - fourth place with BAR - in 2004.

"The Italian Grand Prix is a unique race as it is the fastest on the F1 calendar," said the 29-year-old. "After a positive test at the Monza circuit last week I believe that we have a good package for the race."

Newcomer Yamamoto, who is yet to record a finish, believes that the opportunity to learn the circuit last week has helped in his preparation for the weekend ahead, during which he'll be hoping to build on his improved performance at the Turkish Grand Prix, where he outqualified teammate Sato.

"I am looking forward to the race on this very quick circuit. In Turkey until I had a spin the race was okay for me, so I hope to do a good job in Monza and finish the race," said Yamamoto.

Team boss Aguri Suzuki realises it will be a tough weekend but thinks the test has left the team upbeat and better prepared than usual.

"All the F1 teams, including ourselves, have been preparing the cars with a special set-up for this Grand Prix, but overall it is going to be a difficult race," said the former F1 driver.

"We were able to complete our first three-day test at Monza circuit last week. Here we were able to find a good set-up for the SA06 and as a result we can go into the race with a positive attitude. Takuma and Sakon will be running the completely new version of the SA06 at the Italian Grand Prix, the last of the Eurpean races, and we would like to do our best," he concluded.
