Red Bull Technical Director Adrian Newey crashed heavily at Goodwood's historic festival of speed on Sunday and was forced to spend a night in hospital.
The 47-year-old smashed his Jaguar E-type into a wall when he spun off, lapping slower traffic during a practice session at the revival event.
Formula One's technical "Wizard" managed to get out of the car by himself but was then taken to hospital for a check-up as he appeared to be in a confused state and it was feared he might have been concussed.
The amateur driver, who also wrecked a Ford GT40 at Le Mans in July, was kept in overnight for observation.
"I have no recollection of the event," said Newey, "but I am told that we ended up with three cars abreast while lapping a backmarker.
"I was on the outside and ended up being pushed out onto the grass. The damage to the car is quite light but I must have hit my head on the rollbar. I felt a bit dazed in the ambulance and now I feel as though I have severe jet lag."
