Sebastaian Vettel continued to impress in the first practice session of the Monza Grand Prix. Alexander Wurz, who will be promoted from test driver to race driver next year at Williams, set the pace early on but as the hour went by Vettel got faster and faster and ended up top of the timings with a 1.23.263.
Today's morning session was blessed with bright and sunny weather despite grim forecasts for Friday. What wasn't surprising, however, was the session being dominated by the teams' third drivers - only seven drivers had posted times five minutes before the end. Spicing proceedings up though was Anthony Davidson, whose new Honda '07 spec V8 engine suffered a massive failure after just a lap and a half. Luckily as third driver, he can have an engine change ready for this afternoon's second session.
All three Super Aguris ran through out the session but it was only in the last few minutes that racers Robert Kubica of BMW and Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren set times within a second of Vettel's best. Midland's duo Christijan Albers and Tiago Monteiro were the only other race drivers to post times.
