Massa fastest in final practice

Felipe Massa set a dominant pace in final practice for the Italian Grand Prix, but BMW continued to show they were right up in the mix as Heidfeld and Kubica went second and fourth fastest. Michael Schumacher was third.

It was already hot and sunny in the morning at Monza - air temperature reaching 27 degrees Centigrade and the track continually increasing to 35 degrees.

Renault were third best this morning with Alonso and Fisichella finishing fifth and sixth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, Rubens Barrichello and Pedro de la Rosa.

The only excitement came in the final stages when Barrichello ran wide at the first Lesmo corner, but managed to keep his Honda out of the wall and recover to the pits, and Christian Klien also almost coming to blows with Michael Schumacher as he tried to pass the Ferrari.
