F1 delays new aerodynamic rules

18 September 2006

The FIA announced on Monday that it has come to an agreement with the Formula One teams to delay the introduction of new aerodynamic regulations, originally designed to help overtaking in F1.

Following a meeting with the F1 teams in Paris all parties agreed unanimously that the FIA's plans for the split rear wing, which had been planned for introduction in 2008, would be canned. Following the FIA's initial proposals on the matter, several teams expressed doubts over its effectiveness. Both sides seemed to agree that the idea needed more detailed work.

During the meeting the teams also agreed on the engine freeze for next season, despite several teams pushing against this in recent weeks.

Furthermore teams have agreed to limit testing activity according to distance covered rather than by number of days. From next year teams will be limited to 30,000km track testing during the year.
