
The Italian government has given Imola hope that it can keep its place on the F1 calendar next season when it confirmed today that work to modernise the circuit will start on 4 October. Imola needs to show it can overhaul the pits and paddock area before next year's April date if it is to keep the race.
The Italian Prime Minister's office confirmed that construction work would start next month in a statement issued today. It Imola succeeds in getting back on the calendar, it will mean next year's tour will take in 18 races.
