Williams test driver Alex Wurz finished top of the timing sheet in the second practice session at Shanghai. Despite stalling his car at the start of the session, the Austrian - who next season will be a race driver for Williams - went on to set the pace. BMW third driver Sebastian Vettel was second quickest ahead of Anthony Davidson.
The session was relatively uneventful. David Coulthard had a shock when a plastic bag from the crowds floated onto the track and wrapped itself over his helmet. He quickly tore it off and continued on his way.
Neel Jani caused the only yellow flag when he stopped out on track at turn seven. There was also a very slight splatter of rain drops in the final moments of the session, but this didn't affect thing significantly.
Felipe Massa was fourth ahead of the two championship rivals Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso. Down in ninth there was a surprise with Tiago Monteiro making the top ten in his Spyker while Alex Premat - on his F1 - debut was a very respectable fifteenth of 29 drivers.
