Klien confident of Spyker drive

Christian Klien's is all set to join the Spyker MF1 team next season. Speaking to F1Racing.net the former Red Bull Racing driver confirmed that his talks with the Silverstone-based team and that he is close to reaching an agreement.

"My plans with Spyker are quite concrete, everything is looking good," Klien said, adding that his back-up plan was "to join a Japanese team as their Friday and test driver."

Klien has recently also been named by Honda F1 team boss Nick Fry as a possible replacement for departing number three driver Anthony Davidson.

According to Klien "Spyker is a very ambitious group and their signing of star designer Mike Gascoyne as well as their engine deal with Ferrari show their eagerness to be competitive in the sport. Gascoyne will start his work on November 1 and I am sure, his influence will definitely be noticeable with the new car."

Klien rubbished claims that he was meant to pay for a driving seat for next season saying: "I was not asked to bring any suitcase full of money. This also why, I am not worried by the likes of Alexandre Premat, Adrian Sutil and Ernesto Viso. They even have to pay for their test drives."

Should all else fail, Klien would cross the ocean to start in the ChampCar Series. "I don't need Red Bull for that project. I have received offers from three of the best teams, Newman-Haas, Rusport and Forsythe. All I need to do is to say yes."
