Renault is on the brink of announcing a new main sponsor for next season, F1Racing.net can exclusively reveal. A five-year deal with Dutch bank ING is all but agreed and will apparently be worth as much as 50 million Euros a year.
ING has been sniffing around F1 for a while and understood to have narrowed down its choice to three teams in recent months and now it seems certain that a deal with Renault will be announced within the week.
ING will also back up its on-car sponsorship with track-side advertising.
With the ban on tobacco advertising Renault's long-term deal with Mild Seven has come to an end and the future of Spanish telecoms brand Telefonica is uncertain, with Fernando Alonso's impending move to McLaren.
