Alonso wants more help from Renault
05 October 2006As the 2006 drivers championship reaches a thrilling climax with Fernando Alonso and Michael Schuamcher tied on points, Alonso has spoken out after losing the Chinese Grand Prix to Michael Schumacher. The reigning champion was unhappy that team mate Fisichella was trying to overtake him and says he felt 'alone'.
"I fought Fisichella in the final corner and overtook him once, he overtook me and I passed him again," Alonso recounted. "Having risky moments like these with your team mate with three races left in the championship is not good enough."
"I think the team do the maximum they can," he went on. "They've given me a fantastic car and what they do at every race is unbelievable. But in some situations in a different view or a different approach I've felt a bit alone."
"I had difficult moments at Indianapolis when I wasn't competitive and in China I was off the pace for about ten laps," he continued. "In these two moments I believe that with the team I maybe should have had more help."
Alonso is leaving Renault at the end of this season for McLaren. He went on to add that for the team, the priority was the constructors' championship, not his drivers' battle with Schumacher.
