Juan Pablo Montoya finished third in an eventful debut stock car race at the Talladega Speedway. Competing in the ARCA RE/MAX Food World 250 at the circuit Montoya led the first ten laps and at the sharp end of the grid around the oval.

The former McLaren driver was caught up in an incident when he was hit by another car but he managed to control a slide and keep his car out of the wall. He recovered to third place when the race was red flagged with 15 laps to go after a major pile up.

Montoya had dropped to 31st after having to pit for repairs when he was hit in the side by another car.

"In F1 you go to the back and stay there usually," Montoya said of his fight from 31st to third. "You can be two seconds a lap quicker than the other car in F1 and you're sitll not going to pass. I think I probably passed 40 cars today - it was crazy!"
