BMW is determined to keep hold of fifth place in the constructors' championship and fend off a late charge from Toyota. The Japanese company closed to within a point of BMW following a double-points finish at Suzuka.
"We started the season from eighth so to finish sixth would already constitute quite a leap forward," said BMW team boss Mario Theissen. "However, our internal goal was naturally to achieve fifth place and now we're determined to accomplish that."
Driver Nick Heidfeld was of the same opinion. "A sixth place wouldn't be too bad, since that would already mean a significant improvement," he said. "But when you're so close to reaching a goal you want to achieve the best possible result."
