Ferrari fastest on first day in Jerez

Today, Tuesday, testing began at Jerez in preparation for the final round in the 2006 Formula 1 championship. Ferrari drivers Marc Gene and Luca Badoer were the fastest drivers out on track.

Only five drivers were in action at the Spanish circuit this morning. Ferrari was active with its test drivers Marc Gene and Luca Badoer. The duo covered over 170 laps. At Williams Narain Karthikeyan and Alexander Wurz were in action. It was a difficult day for Karthikyan though. He suffered from electrical problems and managed was therefore not able to cover a lot of laps.

McLaren will begin its actual test on Wednesday. Today, Lewis Hamilton only shook down the car in order to be ready first thing Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday the teams will be joined by BMW-Sauber and Toyota. At Ferrari Marc Gene will be replaced by Michael Schumacher.
