Monteiro in negotiations with Spyker

Monteiro in negotiations with Spyker

16 October 2006

Tiago Monteiro is quietly confident that he can join Christijan Albers as teammate in 2007 when Spyker experience its first full season. The 30-year-old, who enjoys his partnership with Albers, expects something to be sorted soon.

"In my head I'm staying here! We'll find out soon enough. Obviously we're working on a totally different basis now. The team knows what I'm worth, they know what I can do, and like Christijan I would become a paid driver and not a paying driver. We're are negotiating now," he revealed on the team's official website.

The Portuguese driver is relying on sponsorship deals that he could bring to the team to seal the deal.

"We've put Spyker in contact with some sponsors, and it's up to them to finalise those deals. For me it's a different kind of negotiation now."

Despite many drivers being linked to the seat, including Christian Klien, Monteiro still believes he is top of the pile in Spyker's plans.

"There are always drivers on the market of course, there's always competition, but Spyker have told me that they have faith in me, and what they want to do. Now it's a matter of the details, I guess!"
